THe Vineyards

Fighting Gully Road Vineyard is situated atop of the Beechworth Escarpment 530 - 580 meters above sea level with red Ordovician mudstone and shales soils.

The Smiths Vineyard was planted in 1978 and is the oldest vineyard in Beechworth. The vineyard produces concentrated and elegant wines.

THe winemaker

Mark Walpole is a complete Vigneron - His expertise is founded in the vineyard, but it’s his attention to detail and understanding of each varietal and the region has helped him master winemaking in Beechworth. His softly spoken nature and generosity of spirit is why he is respected by his peers both as a winemaker and viticulturist.

THe Wines

Mark produces some of the best value wine in the region. He grows his own fruit and makes the wines in the old Beechworth Lunatic Asylum. New producers keep arriving, buying fruit, using consultant winemakers and charging exorbitant prices. But Mark continues to make excellent wines that are consistently exceptional value across the range in one of Australia’s best cool climate artisan regions.
